I took a short trip to Edmonton for a graduation shoot in July. Sometimes the weather doesn't fully cooperate. I was supposed to photograph two ladies but one decided she didn't want rainy photos. The other was a rockstar and was game for anything. It was a touch cold and wet but she was a trooper and I absolutely love what we created.
We ventured down to the Alberta Legislative Grounds. When I lived in Edmonton, I worked on 108 Street; the area has changed a lot. The fountain area was still under construction, but we found a way to make some magic.
It's important to note that anything is possible. A rainy day might lead to something epic. After browsing this gallery, let me know if you would do grad photos in the rain!
Here are a few tips for rainy portraits:
- Come with a sense of adventure.
- Bring a sweater or warm jacket and tell your photographer if you are getting cold.
- If the weather is looking wet for your grad shoot, create a Pinterest board of ideas to share with your photographer.
- Lean into the drama.
- Talk to your photographer about your hopes. If rainy weather is a hard no, work with your photographer to set a new date. Otherwise, embrace it and make something no one else has.
