When Wedding Day Plans Go Sideways
What do you do when your wedding venue has a fire, they cancel your wedding, and your wedding is in a little less than two weeks? You re-plan your venue, food, bar, and wedding day plans in 12 days or less. No small feat, but this couple did exactly that! Unfortunately, Candle Lake Golf Resort had a fire that destroyed their kitchen, and they informed the couple that they could no longer accommodate their wedding.
They managed to relocate to the Spruce Home Activity Center which, while a bit rustic, could accommodate the size of their wedding, had a built-in bar, and an area for the Bride to get ready. They found some volunteers to work the bar and were lucky to acquire The Dam Smokehouse from Nipawin to cater. The food, brisket, mashed potatoes, and Ceasar salad, while simple was delicious and the groom's mother baked delicious cupcakes for dessert.
And what do you do when it turns out it is supposed to rain on your wedding day? Where do you make portraits in the country in cold and wet weather? Well, if you're lucky, you have a wonderful photographer who can set up an indoor backdrop. Ok, a little nod to myself. I like to help as much as I can. Wedding days are stressful, if I can ease that stress, I will.
How The Day Went
The couple showed up with bright smiles and made the best of everything. I couldn't ask for a better couple than these two lovebirds who kept positive attitudes and had fun every moment they could. Despite the sudden change of events, they made the best of everything. This couple was tested and proved their mettle indicating a strong future together.
The weather cleared enough to photograph the wedding party and the couple's portraits outdoors. Spruce Home Activity Centre's grounds even offered up some unique portrait opportunities.
While I generally don't do weddings, I do love to photograph love and intimacy. I would love to photograph highly unique or themed weddings (A Gomez and Morticia-style wedding is on my bucket list).
